AIRPLANE WISHES

It would be with a guy who looks like
Lenny Kravitz with Sting’s voice

We would get tattoos together
while deciphering Tori Amos lyrics.

We would go to some dark,
candlelight-stonewalled dive
to eat some type of pasta
marinara sauce
seafood combination

and talk about
our dysfunctional upbringings.

We would PLAN to go dancing
at some loud and obnoxiously
gay nightclub
but opt instead to go to a jazz club.

We’ll walk over to the lakefront
and think that we are
wishing on stars

but laugh as we realize
that they are actually
high flying planes...

then wonder

where they’re taking our wishes.
