BREEZE LOVE SOUL
DIFFERENT MOON
© Breeze Vincinz
Your song has bled us bone dry
Wonder about our masochism
Our bodies bread, our blood wine
Our desperation catechism
The air is a disease aquarium
Holding our breath for a cure
Our voices used to carry them
But nothing is for sure
Not anymore; it’s a different moon
Not every door opens to a better room
And we don’t dream like we used to
Back when sleeping was easy to do
How about instead of dreaming of you
I dream for you
And somehow that wakes you up
And brings you back to me
My dream was like a memory
I blame it on the sun
It gleamed away identity
Leaving the battle scars we won
Our afflictions and addictions
Together we love and cope
Not loam deep definitions
With no future or hope
Not anymore; it’s a different moon
Not every door opens to a worse room
Our nightmares got bigger as we did
Our fears just as scary as any kid
How about instead of dreaming of you
I dream for you
And somehow that wakes you up
And brings you back to me
How about instead of running to you
I wait for you
And somehow that shakes you up
And you run back to me
With your rebel heart and outlaw spirit
Clear a path in this dark, dark world
Sharpen yourself, your decency, your wit
Clear a path in this cold, dark world
How about instead of praying for you
I have faith in you
To clear a path in this dark, dark world
Clear a path in this cold, dark world
I am crying for you
I am crying with you
I wonder about our masochism
And that song you sing
And how I always listen
And the blood it brings
And the men we become
When the sun gleams us bare
Complete aura freedom
And I’m in love with what I see there
Forevermore; it’s a different moon
It knows the sun will be coming soon
Sleep isn’t always easy but in the same bed
If I can’t dream, put my hand behind your head
And instead of dreaming of you
I’ll dream for you
And somehow that wakes you up
And it’ll bring you back to me
And instead of praying for you
I’ll have faith in you
And somehow you’ll find me
And you’ll run back to me
Full transparency. I was at an Ani DiFranco concert, and I’m not sure if she was ad-libbing or if it was a lyric from one of her more obscure songs, but she sang, “How about instead of dreaming of you, I dream for you,” and it plucked a string that has yet to stop vibrating all these years. It brought to mind this one specific dude that I have watched grow from a sprightly vicenarian to an indigent criminal, and somehow wound up falling in love despite his spiral. The poem was written with that lyric and him in mind. I was really trying to do and be everything for this guy, hoping he could see what I saw in him. Maybe he could see the potential I saw. It’s a tragic poem. But I gotta tell you... the song, feels like hope.
